Child > 56 Days with Suspected Cellulitis/Abscess
Definitions
This pathway should be used to guide the care of healthy children > 56 days of age with suspected skin and/or soft tissue infection.
Exclusions
- Immunodeficiency
- Infection associated with indwelling device
- History of recent surgery
- Hospital-acquired infection
- Pressure ulcer
- Suspected necrotizing fasciitis (consult General Surgery immediately,
ED, Inpatient and PICU Sepsis Pathway) - Suspected Severe Sepsis – ED, Inpatient and PICU Sepsis Pathway
Suspected abscess in the following locations should consider subspecialty consultation/alternate pathway:
