  • Adolescents have the right to confidentiality. Providers may disclose to guardians and appropriate parties when there is a threat to life of the patient, of others, or risk of abuse or neglect of a minor (e.g., scenarios may include when someone is hurting the patient, imminent risk of fentanyl or benzodiazepine overdose, when there is a risk of driving under the influence). Consider discussing with Ethics team when other mental health confidentiality issues arise.

MyCHOP Proxy Access Patients 13-18 yrs of age must assent to allow parents/guardians to access certain categories of medical information, access can be revoked at any time. Proxy access will only be granted to parties with parental rights or legal guardianship over the CHOP patient.
