How to Apply for Medical Assistance in PA and NJ

Pennsylvania

Medical Assistance (MA, also known as Medicaid) is a public insurance system. It may be used to cover medical bills that insurance does not pay or can be used as a primary insurance if a child is not covered by other insurance. MA will cover everything from routine office visits, to prescription drugs, wraparound services, and co-pays (if the provider accepts MA).

How Do I Apply?

It is possible to apply online through the COMPASS program, however most families have had better success completing the application and bringing it to their County Assistance Office in person. (See the Additional Resources section at the bottom of this article to find a link to help you locate your local County Assistance Office.)

To apply online, go to the PA online website, COMPASS

To apply in person, call or visit your local County Assistance Office.
