Lactation Clinical Internship

The lactation team at CHOP is known for its work with medically fragile children and their families. Our team is comprised of International Board-Certified Lactation Consultants (IBCLCs) with varied backgrounds including registered dietitians and nurses.

Information about certification process, information on coursework and career planning and eligibility requirements for certification can be found on the website of International Board of Lactation Consultant Examiners.

Comprehensive lactation internship training is offered two times per year. Internship training is one of the integral requirements for students who are planning a career as an IBCLC.

Interns are exposed to the lactation field while developing their assessment and intervention skill sets. Interns will gain experience with families through a continuum of care in both the acute hospital setting and outpatient clinics.

Application is not a guarantee of acceptance. A limited number of students will be accepted each year as space allows. Quality supervision is a top priority for our student programs. The number of students accepted will vary from semester to semester due to the number of applicants and supervisor availability.
