Why Choose CHOP for Allergy Care

Why Choose CHOP for Allergy Care

Today we are starting to talk about curing allergies – not just treating them. While not every child can be permanently cured, many can be helped with innovative biologic treatments that re-educate – or teach – the immune system to be less allergic. Some children can be truly cured of their allergies by building a tolerance to the food to which they were previously allergic.

Progress in the care and treatment of atopic dermatitis, asthma and food allergies has led to most children leading normal lives. In some cases, they have been cured. A key step in the treatment is the use of appropriate, validated diagnostic approaches.

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is leading the way with innovation in allergy, and we are proud to help children reach their potential and lead full and rich lives. We emphasize a true partnership between patients, families, and our clinical team to ensure we address each patient's goals uniquely.

Our faculty are recognized as leaders in the management of allergic conditions. They have helped formulate many of the national guidelines used by physicians across the country and the world. Many of our faculty are also involved in uncovering the pathologic and genetic causes of these diseases to develop new and better treatments.

We support laboratory, translational and clinical research in allergic disorders and participate in efforts to bring new medications and therapies to our patients. Research performed in collaboration with colleagues at CHOP and many other institutions around the world has advanced our understanding of several of these diseases. Ongoing research efforts are focused on: eosinophilic esophagitis (EoE), IgE-mediated food allergies, food desensitization, asthma and atopic dermatitis.
