Neurophysiological Biomarkers in Rett Syndrome

The purpose of this study to learn more about the brain function of females with Rett Syndrome and how it compares to the brain function of typically developing females. The primary investigator of the study is Dr. Eric Marsh. For our research to be successful we need to partner with families who have a typically developing daughter between the age of 1 and 17. If your child agrees to help us with our study she will be asked to:

  • Complete intelligence testing
  • Receive an Evoked Potential measurement - this is a non-invasive procedure similar to an EEG.
  • Complete yearly follow up visits
All participants are compensated for their time and travel.

Sleep and Growth Study 2

The Childrens Hospital of Philadelphia is seekinghealthy adolescents between the ages of 12-13, who are currently in the 7thgrade,to participate in the Sleep and Growth Study 2. The purpose of this research is to learn more about the changes in sleep and body size in adolescents as they transition from middle to high school. Participants will be asked to visit CHOP so that we can measure their bone density. Following this visit, participants will wear a sleep tracker over a 2-week period and speak to a team member by phone on three occasions about the types of food eaten in the previous 24 hours. If you and your child agree to participate, the study will involve 3 visits over approximately 2 years. ENCODE

The purpose of this investigation is to evaluate the impact of non-persistent and persistent chemical exposures on autoimmunity, gene expression and the microbiome in children with and without Crohns disease. If these chemical exposures are associated with differences in the epigenome and microbiome that are known to predispose for Crohns disease, the proposed research could further support changes in dietary behaviors to limit exposure, and efforts to regulate manufacturing processes that unintentionally and intentionally add these chemicals to food.

Polyethylene Glycol Safety in Children

This study was designed to measure components or metabolites of PEG 3350 in blood and urine from children who were already taking PEG 3350 and to compare these levels to measurements of the same molecules from a group of children who were not taking PEG 3350. PEG 3350 was not prescribed as part of this study. Participants completed questionnaires and provided access to their medical records.Enrollment for this study has been completed. Laboratory analysis of specimens and data analysis are being conducted. This work will be submitted for publication once all analyses have been completed. Body Surface Gastric Mapping in Patients with GI Symptoms

The purpose of this study is to learn more about a new device that measures stomach and bowel myoelectric (electricity produced by muscles) activity in children and young adults using body surface gastric mapping (BSGM). The BSGM device is FDA approved for use in individuals aged 12 and older.

We are looking to partner with patients who have a confirmed diagnosis of a Motility Disorder and/or Functional Gastrointestinal Disorder (FGID) or patients who are having motility tests/procedures performed for clinical care. We are also looking for healthy controls without any history of inflammatory disease or pyloric disorders. All study participants must be 8 - 25 years of age and have a body mass index (BMI) of less than 35.

Participation is completely voluntary, and subjects may withdraw at any time without affecting their care. Participants may receive compensation for their time.

Gastrointestinal Motility Biorepository

Gastrointestinal motility disorders (GMD) and disorders of gut brain interactions (DGBI) include a wide spectrum of disease conditions, and it's relatively common in the general population. GMDs and DGBIs may be caused by impaired movement of muscles in the digestive system, impaired or oversensitive nerve signaling between the gut and brain, bacterial overgrowth, intolerance to certain foods, altered anatomy, or more. The purpose of this study is to collect and store data and samples, such as blood and saliva, for future research about GMD and DGBI. The study plans to enroll up to 5,000 participants, including patients with or without GMD and DGBI.

Bio Repository

The purpose of this research study is to collect different types of samples (such as stool, swabs, urine) to form a biorepository. This repository will provide valuable samples from people with and without IBD so that investigators can learn more about the cause of IBD, and different therapies that could be used to treat it. These samples will be used for future gastrointestinal research. Because technology and scientific understanding may advance quickly, it is not yet known what specific studies the samples may be used for.
