At Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), we know that healthcare providers can deliver better care when we partner with groups that are committed to family and child well-being outside the healthcare setting.
CHOP's Medical Legal Partnership provides pro bono legal services and legal representation to families of patients in select locations at the Hospital whose health and well-being may be negatively affected by a legal barrier.
Children's health and well-being goes far beyond the healthcare environment. Research shows that a child's overall health is heavily impacted by social determinants that often require legal support. The program, launched in 2015, is a multi-partner collaboration between CHOP's Division of Social Work, the University of Pennsylvania Law School's Interdisciplinary Child Advocacy Clinic, Community Legal Services, and Reed Smith.
The medical legal partnership model has been proven to be an effective way to meet the needs of families facing complex health issues in combination with other social and physical stressors. Since launching, the Medical Legal Partnership has resolved legal needs for more than 350 families.
