Speaking Valve Trial

If your child has a tracheostomy, a speaking valve trial can test her ability to use a speaking valve safely.

This test must be arranged in advance of your child's visit so that your child’s home medical supply company can provide you with the correct speaking valve beforehand. The valve must be tested on your child with a special pressure gauge by our speech language pathologist and respiratory therapist, with the physician, to make sure your child’s medical condition is not compromised. Specific directions for use would be given to you at the time of the visit based on the results.
