Ice Rub Desensitization for Amplified Musculoskeletal Pain

For this desensitization technique, first you will need to gather and prepare your supplies. Begin at least a day before you plan to start the ice cup massage by filling a paper cup almost completely with water. Place the cup or a few cups into the freezer and allow it to freeze completely. When the ice is frozen, take it out of the freezer and peel off the top edge of the cup to expose the ice.

Place a towel under the body part on which you are going to complete the massage. Apply the ice to the body part and move the ice cup in small circles for about three to four minutes. This is the correct way. This is the incorrect technique.

Great job! You've completed one of the four to five recommended desensitization techniques per day. Try another one! Remember, this can take some time to work so don't give up.
