Why Choose Us for Pediatric Stroke Care

Why Choose Us for Pediatric Stroke Care

At Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), we know you have many options when seeking pediatric stroke care for your child. Consider these factors when choosing the treatment center that’s the right fit for you and your family:

  • Comprehensive, team-based care in one visit. In our Pediatric Stroke Clinic, we bring together specialists from different areas to evaluate your child in one visit. We work together to understand your child’s needs, create a treatment plan, and talk through all aspects of care right away. This way, we can address all your questions and make sure the care plan is personalized for your child.
  • Subspecialty expertise. Our team includes a pediatric neurologist, neuropsychologist, rehabilitation doctor and therapists, as well as neurointerventional radiologists, social workers, nurse coordinators and education specialists. We also have access to all the specialists at CHOP’s world-leading Neuroscience Center.
  • Comprehensive diagnostic and treatment planning. We use the latest imaging and testing tools to find out what caused your child’s stroke. This helps us create a treatment plan that’s tailored to your child’s needs.
  • Family-centered support. We understand that a diagnosis of pediatric stroke can be overwhelming for families. Our social workers, nurses, coordinators and education specialists are here to provide guidance and emotional support. We help families understand what caused their child’s stroke and adjust to living with a stroke diagnosis. We also work closely with schools to create an Individualized Education Plan (IEP) that supports your child’s academic growth and addresses their specific needs.
  • Continuous care as your child grows. Pediatric stroke can be especially challenging as children grow and their needs change. We follow our patients for a long time, updating the care plan as your child reaches new stages in their development. This includes regular check-ups and therapy. For children who need an Individualized Education Plan (IEP), we will work with your child’s school to make sure their IEP matches their changing needs to achieve their maximum potential.
  • Access to cutting-edge research and clinical trials. Our program is a leader in pediatric stroke care, giving families access to new research and clinical trials. Families may have the chance to join studies that could provide new treatments and help us learn more about pediatric stroke.
