Division of Infectious Diseases

The Division of Infectious Diseases at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) provides consultation on the diagnosis and management of acute and chronic pediatric infectious diseases. The members of our team are leaders in their field, with advanced expertise not only in providing clinical care but also in research and education. We are committed to caring for children and work to expand research in infectious diseases, leading the way in establishing best practices for diagnosis and treatment.

Our programs and services

Our team is involved in the care of children with infectious diseases both inside and outside the hospital. Some of the common conditions we treat include:

Inpatient consults: Our physicians provide expert care for patients admitted at CHOP with suspected or confirmed infectious diseases. Our team works closely with other providers and care teams at CHOP, as well as the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and Pennsylvania Hospital as needed.

Outpatient clinics: Patients can also receive outpatient care from our clinic team. We currently see patients at the Wood Building on the Philadelphia Campus and at CHOP’s Specialty Care & Surgery Center on the King of Prussia Campus. In most cases, your pediatrician will let you know if they recommend setting up an appointment.

Specialty clinics: We are dedicated to providing comprehensive care to children with infectious diseases. For some of our more complex patients, our outpatient team collaborates with other specialties to coordinate visits and create personalized robust care plans and monitor patient progress together. We currently have specialty clinics for oncology, cystic fibrosis, solid organ transplant, and neurology patients. Your care team will let you know if this is right for your child.

Global Health: The CHOP Global Health Center leads CHOP’s work in low- and middle- income countries. It utilizes CHOP’s academic pediatric model of excellence in clinical care, teaching, research and advocacy to improve health and achieve equity in health for all children worldwide.
