Stuttering Program

Children who stutter can face teasing, loss of confidence and more. While some kids outgrow stuttering, not all do, and the Stuttering Program at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is here to provide highly specialized diagnosis and customized therapies to help your child manage all types of speech fluency-related problems.

Your child's and family's specific needs are at the center of the customized therapy plan we create to help your family. Family members are part of the treatment team to improve your child's everyday communication.

We provide family education and training, consultation services for community or school-based speech-language pathologists, and continuing education activities for the professional community.

What to expect in stuttering therapy

After a thorough evaluation, one of our speech-language pathologists will work with you and your child to create a customized therapy plan. Since kids need to practice skills, home programming will likely be part of your child's treatment plan. This includes things like targeted games for younger kids and skills practice for older ones.
