Drug-Induced Liver Disease

Learn more about the Fred and Suzanne Biesecker Pediatric Liver Center

What is drug-induced liver disease?

Certain medications, toxins, drugs and herbs may cause injury to the liver and disrupt the gastrointestinal (GI) system. These agents either directly injure the liver or cause an immune or allergic response.

When starting a new medication, it is important to let your healthcare provider know about any existing health conditions and to ask about the potential side effects of the medication.
