Dr. Andrew T. Costarino is the Chief of the Division of Cardiac Critical Care at The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia, he holds CHOP Endowed Chair in Cardiac Critical Care and is a Professor of Anesthesiology and Critical Care and Pediatrics at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania. A graduate of the University of Notre Dame, Dr. Costarino attended the State University of New York at Buffalo School of Medicine before coming to Philadelphia for his residency in Pediatrics. He then completed training in Anesthesiology at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and returned to CHOP for an advanced fellowship in Pediatric Anesthesiology and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. Dr. Costarino began his faculty career at CHOP specializing in general and pediatric anesthesia and critical care of infants and children. He was Director of the Fellowship in Pediatric Critical Care. His research focused on acute respiratory distress and mediators of sepsis in this population. Dr. Costarino left CHOP to become Chairman of the Department of Anesthesiology and Critical Care Medicine at Nemours duPont Hospital for Children in Wilmington Delaware. After 13 years in that position he was recruited to return to CHOP in his current position in the Cardiac Center in 2015. Dr. Costarino is former member of the American Board of Pediatrics, sub board for Critical Care.
