Children who've recently had surgery for congenital heart disease (CHD) – or have a life-threatening illness related to heart disease – are cared for by experts from Cardiac Critical Care Medicine at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP). In the Evelyn and Daniel M. Tabas Cardiac Intensive Care Unit (CICU), your child will receive around-the-clock attention from a team of specialists providing coordinated care for pediatric heart patients when they are critically ill.

Every member of your child's team has been specially trained to provide coordinated care for pediatric heart patients whose conditions are complex and fragile. These providers work closely with other members of your child’s cardiac team — including surgeons and cardiologists — to minimize pain and advance your child’s recovery.

How we serve you

The CICU is one of the largest units in the country dedicated to caring for children with heart conditions. Your child will benefit from specially trained physicians who care for a large number of patients with rare and complex congenital heart diseases each year, offering a unique level of expertise.
