The 20th Annual Parkway Run & Walk, presented by Citadel Credit Union, raised a record-breaking $2 million and counting to support childhood cancer research and care at the Cancer Center of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia. The presenting sponsor, Citadel Credit Union, doubled its pledge this year, donating a total of $300,000, and announced plans to renew its partnership and commitment for another year to support the fight against childhood cancer. Citadel has been the presenting sponsor since 2019, raising a total of $750,000 for the cause.

Held on September 25 along the Benjamin Franklin Parkway, the event drew nearly 10,000 supporters, including more than 300 teams, who participated in the largest annual fundraiser for the Cancer Center at CHOP, an internationally recognized leader in pediatric cancer treatment and care.

“The Parkway Run & Walk is the momentous finale of our Center’s efforts to raise funds and awareness each year during September’s National Childhood Cancer Awareness Month,” said Dr. Susan Rheingold, Medical Director of the Oncology Outpatient Clinic and Attending Physician with the Cancer Center at CHOP. “I have participated every year and each time I do, I am overwhelmed by the support our patients’ friends and families provide. These critical funds will help our researchers continue their work in discovering treatments to cure childhood cancer.”

Many participants attended with signs and t-shirts dedicated to children in their community with cancer. It was a time of celebration and reflection, and an opportunity to re-connect with doctors, nurses and staff from the Cancer Center who spent time with patients during their medical journeys.

“Patients and families come to CHOP from around the globe to receive the best pediatric cancer care from some of the world’s top clinicians,” said Jeff March, President and Chief Executive Officer of Citadel Credit Union. “We are thrilled to support this amazing cause and and our team loves meeting the employees and patients of CHOP each year. We had an unbelievable time at this year’s event that truly builds strength across our community. The total raised was more than $2 million, so congratulations to all the CHOP staff – doctors, nurses, therapists and researchers – for their persistent, passionate, and inspiring work in helping to conquer childhood cancer.”
