Trisomy 21 Update

The Down Syndrome Metabolic Health Study is investigating how body composition relates to the risks of developing cardiovascular problems and type 2 diabetes in children and adolescents with Down syndrome (DS). The study involves one full day at CHOP Main Campus.

We are currently enrolling kids with DS between the ages of 10 and 20. We have had a wonderful response, with 23 participants completing the study since we began enrollment in February 2013 — thanks to those families — but we need 150 total by 2016.

We are also looking for children and adolescents between the ages of 8 and 20 with DS and untreated subclinical hypothyroidism for a separate study. This is an 18-month long study investigating the treatment of subclinical hypothyroidism.

Both studies provide compensation. For more information about either study, please call Amber Lauff at 267-426-0299 or Divya Prasad at 267-426-2778 or email us at downstudy@email.chop.edu.
