Primary Care Is Important: A Message from Our Pediatricians

Lisa Biggs, MD: Hello. I'm Lisa Biggs, a Pediatrician and Associate Chief Medical Officer at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia Care Network. I'm here with a message about your child's health. It is safe to resume regular appointments with your pediatrician. The COVID19 Pandemic has been unprecedented in our lifetimes. It is understandable to have fears about going to the doctor's office. But in today's world, it is more important than ever to make sure your child visits the doctor. Please don’t delay care.

One incredibly important part of routine care is vaccination for diseases like measles and mumps. Check ups or well visits also allow us to keep track of your child's physical and developmental growth, monitor for concerns, and identify issues before they become problems.

We're also seeing people delay care when their child is sick. This can be dangerous. If your child is sick, call us. A video visit might be enough or we may advise you to come in. Here are some of the strict procedures in place to keep you safe.

First, cleaning and disinfection, I promise you, your doctor's office will be very clean. We have the highest standards for disinfection with products proven effective against the virus that causes COVID19. Every staff member and every visitor older than the age of two is required to wear a mask. If your child needs a mask we will provide one.

We screen every visitor for COVID19 symptoms and exposure. Our spaces are rearranged for physical distancing. Whenever possible, you will go right to an exam room or we may ask you to wait in your car. We have adjusted schedules so that healthy and sick children are in the office at different times.

We look forward to seeing you for check ups, vaccinations, sports physicals -- whatever your child needs. Thank you for trusting us with your child's care.
