The Center for Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) is one of the largest centers of its kind in the U.S., providing care for more than 2,000 children diagnosed with IBD each year from around the world. Children and adolescents come to Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) to receive individualized care and the latest treatments, and to participate in clinical research studies. Our goal is to give the best care to help your child feel better and stay healthy.

More than 80,000 children in the United States live with IBD which includes Crohn’s disease, ulcerative colitis, and IBD unclassified (IBD-U). IBD is a chronic disease that can cause swelling, redness (inflammation) and damage in the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It can lead to stomach pain, diarrhea and other GI symptoms. For some children, symptoms occur outside the GI tract and may include joint inflammation and/or rashes. While there is currently no cure for IBD, it can be successfully treated.
