ELNEC: End-of-Life Nursing Education Consortium – Pediatric Curriculum

The curriculum consists of nine modules specific to care of children facing life-threatening illness and their families. The principal goal of the training program is to provide pediatric healthcare providers with information on pediatric palliative and hospice care and resources to integrate this content into their clinical education. Course content will be presented in several participatory formats including lecture, open forum discussion, small group activities, and training sessions.

This one-day program will provide neonatologists and neonatal healthcare providers with the most up-to-date information on complex physiologic issues in neonatology. This program will review some of the latest therapies used in treating sick neonates. Topics this year include management of pulmonary vein stenosis; lymphatic flow disorders in the neonate; congenital infections, including syphilis and CME; multi-drug-resistant organisms such as E-coli; rapid targeting gene testing and how best to implement that into practice; and using developmental supports to improve outcomes.

Paul M. Weinberg Congenital Cardiac Morphology Course

This 4-day, in-person course offers a comprehensive examination of the morphology of congenital heart disease. The course was created and led by Paul M. Weinberg, MD, renowned cardiac morphologist, for eight years. In the course’s 12th year, Dr. Weinberg’s colleagues (many of whom he trained in cardiology and morphology) continue to carry on his legacy by continuing to provide expert content in cardiac morphology, using many of Dr. Weinberg’s own teaching materials. In addition, this year will feature expert cardiac morphologist Andrew Cook, PhD. To supplement anatomic teaching, there are sessions on echocardiography, cardiac magnetic resonance imaging and surgical correlation by distinguished faculty. This year we will bring back the hands-on specimen experience. The course is designed for senior, junior and trainee cardiologists, cardiothoracic surgeons, pathologists, pathology assistants, echocardiography sonographers and other medical professionals interested in congenital heart disease.

The increasing number of acutely ill and injured pediatric patients presenting to Emergency Departments and offices requires that emergency physicians, pediatric emergency physicians, pediatricians, family physicians, pediatric nurse practitioners and physician assistants be prepared to assess, diagnose and expertly treat a wide variety of pediatric emergencies and to stay up to date with evolving diagnostic and therapeutic practices, patient care recommendations and guidelines. This in-person course will feature hands-on and interactive teaching formats including large and small group discussions, workshops and simulation in procedural skills, resuscitation, and diagnostic reasoning.
