About Daniel Balcarcel, MD
Dr. Dan Balcarcel is a graduate of the University of Notre Dame and the Loyola University Chicago Stritch School of Medicine. He completed his pediatrics residency at Ann & Robert H. Lurie Children’s Hospital of Chicago and his pediatric critical care medicine fellowship at the Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), where he also served as a T32 research fellow in Pediatric Lung Diseases and earned a Master of Biomedical Informatics (MBMI) from the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Balcarcel’s research focuses on precision medicine approaches to pediatric critical illness. His work leverages clinical informatics, machine learning, and causal inference methods to identify patient subgroups who may benefit from targeted therapies, with a particular focus on pediatric Acute Respiratory Distress Syndrome (PARDS).
