Background

Jennifer Buchanan, MD, is an urgent care pediatrician at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP).

Dr. Buchanan has worked with CHOP urgent care since 2019. Her favorite part of seeing patients in urgent care? “I am constantly learning something new, with the variety of patients I see every day. I love working together with a wonderful team.”

She was drawn to pediatrics from early in her medical education. “As a youngster I enjoyed science and biology. I loved my pediatrics rotation in medical school and knew that was the job for me.”

Dr. Buchanan has been a pediatrician for 40 years, with specialty training in developmental pediatrics. She worked for several years helping children with learning disorders. She also evaluated premature and other infants in a NICU setting and followed their development over the first 6 years of life.

CHOP’s pediatric Urgent Care Centers provide fast, convenient care for children and teens with non-life-threatening illnesses or injuries. Typically, these are situations when your child can’t wait until the pediatrician’s office is open, but they don’t need the resources of an emergency department (ED). Urgent Care Centers are staffed by board-certified pediatricians and pediatric nurses with expertise in caring for children with urgent healthcare needs. The facilities offer onsite X-rays and testing to help with fast diagnosis and treatment plans.
