CHOP Names Paula Agosto, RN, MHA, to the Position of Senior Vice President and Chief Nursing Officer

paula agosto As the senior vice president and chief nursing officer, Agosto is responsible for advancing nursing and respiratory practice and leading nursing research while supporting Children's Hospital's commitment to exceptional patient care.

"Paula brings a wealth of experience and insight to the executive team, having started her career at Children’s Hospital 28 years ago as a staff nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit,” said Madeline Bell, president and chief operating officer of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. “Her willingness to take on new leadership challenges and the success of her teams in achieving results under her leadership have won her the respect and support of her colleagues and prepared her for this key organizational role.”

Agosto started her career at CHOP as a staff nurse in the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) in 1985. Beginning in 1996, she has assumed progressively responsible leadership roles, including nurse manager of the PICU, director of Critical Care, Transport, and Emergency Nursing, and assistant vice president of Critical Care, Respiratory and Neuro-Diagnostic services. In addition to her extensive leadership experience, Agosto has led a number of successful cross-organizational improvement and operating plan initiatives.

She earned her nursing degree from Villanova University and a Master of Health Administration from Saint Joseph's University. Agosto is active in the American Association of Critical Care Nurses (AACN), Sigma Theta Tau Nursing National Honor Society and the Society of Critical Care Medicine. She has written for numerous pediatric textbooks and manuals and has given presentations around the country on pediatric nursing topics.
