Give Kids Sight Day Offers Free Eye Screenings

On Saturday, Oct. 24, the Sixth Annual Give Kids Sight Day (GKSD) eye screening will be held at Wills Eye Hospital. The event provides free eye checks and eyeglasses for children 17 years and under who have not had, or who have not passed, an eye screening.

The event is scheduled for 8:30 a.m. to 2:00 p.m. No appointments necessary – the event is walk-in only. Uninsured children are welcome. Registration will be held at Jefferson Medical College, Alumni Hall at 10th and Locust Streets in Philadelphia.

Volunteers from The Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia’s Division of Ophthalmology will be participating to provide pediatric eye care and support the event.

Two-thirds of Philadelphia school children who fail a school vision screening do not get a follow-up exam. In response to this need, Public Citizens for Children and Youth (PCCY) and its partners designed Give Kids Sight Day. Since 2009, the organization has helped over 5,500 children obtain free eye care services.
