In October, the University City District’s West Philadelphia Skills Initiative (WPSI) celebrated five years with an anniversary event featuring Madeline Bell, President and CEO of Children's Hospital of Philadelphia, as keynote speaker and advocate for WPSI.

Bell highlighted the important role the business sector plays in the West Philadelphia community. She praised the WPSI for transforming the lives of hundreds of previously unemployed residents, connecting them with career-ladder positions with CHOP and other leading institutions and employers throughout Philadelphia.

As one of Philadelphia’s largest employers and economic engines, CHOP is committed to building a stronger community, including helping our neighbors obtain skills to find jobs. Our partnership with the University City District has allowed the Hospital to do that successfully.
