Zion Harvey became the world's first child to undergo a bilateral hand transplant when a team of surgeons and other specialists came together from Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), Penn Medicine and Shriners Hospitals for Children - Philadelphia to perform this historic surgery. Over the last year, Zion has worked diligently at Kennedy Krieger Institute near his home in Baltimore, Maryland, to regain his hand function.
In August 2016, Zion, surrounded by his family, friends and medical team, proudly threw out the first pitch at a Baltimore Orioles game! Congratulations, Zion!
