Occupational Therapy

Occupational Therapy at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP), a service of the Center for Rehabilitation, helps children facing the physical and social effects of illness, injury, and developmental or genetic disorders. Our occupational therapists work with your child to improve the ability to participate in everyday activities.

We work with patients in areas such as:

  • Using their hands to grasp objects
  • Strengthening muscles
  • Learning or re-learning life skills like feeding themselves

We can:

  • Recommend ways to adapt a home environment so a child can move around independently
  • Train a child and caregiver to use special equipment
  • And much more

Our caring team supports your child and your entire family every step of the way.

How we serve you

We evaluate and improve your child's ability to perform everyday skills, including:

  • Developmental and life skills, such as feeding
  • Thinking and visual perception
  • Fine motor skills like reaching and grasping
  • Processing sensory information
  • Strength
  • The use of assistive devices
  • Strategies and techniques to compensate for physical limitations
