HHI leader Karen Hudson, MSW, LSW, was honored by the Society of Social Work Leadership in October 2013 as she presented the Kermit J. Nash Memorial Lecture at the group’s annual conference.

Hudson was recognized for characterizing principles of social work through her demonstration of excellence and commitment to addressing the needs of those experiencing homelessness. Her lecture stressed the need for social workers to advocate and provide services for these vulnerable families while allowing the passion of HHI to shine through.

During the conference, attendees demonstrated an act of social action by donating toiletries and cosmetics to HHI partner shelters for our families’ use.

In April 2014, Philadelphia City Council recognized the co-authors of the “Parenting in the Face of Homelessness” chapter with a Council Citation. The chapter is included in the 2014 book Supporting Families Experiencing Homelessness.
