Emergency Care of the Technology Assisted Child

At the end of this session, participants will be able to:

  • State at least one potential complication that may occur in children with each of the following pieces of technology :
    • tracheostomy
    • CSF shunt
    • Enteral tube, and
    • Central venous catheter.
  • Discuss ways that parents and home care nurses are important partners in the care of children assisted by technology
  • List at least three ways to assess the patency of tracheostomy tube.
  • Explain how to replace a gastrostomy tube.
