Why choose CHOP for sports medicine
The pediatric Sports Medicine and Performance Center at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is the region’s premier healthcare resource for young athletes. We have more specially trained sports medicine physicians, orthopedic surgeons, physical therapists and athletic trainers than any other pediatric orthopedic facility in the region and are nationally recognized for our surgical expertise and innovative treatments for young performance athletes.
Our center is part of CHOP's Orthopedic Center, which is consistently among the top ranked programs in the nation according to U.S. News & World Report's Honor Roll of Best Children’s Hospitals, earning the No. 1 spot in 2023-24.
Our large team of pediatric sports medicine specialists includes board-certified orthopedic surgeons, sports medicine physicians, specially trained physical therapists, athletic trainers and nutritionists, as well as advanced practice nurses and physician assistants.
Led by world-renowned orthopedic surgeon Theodore J. Ganley, MD, the Sports Medicine and Performance Center offers cutting-edge treatment to children, teens and young adults with sports injuries. Our surgeons have developed innovative surgical techniques – most notably for pediatric ACL reconstruction – that are used as the gold standard across the nation.
Our Sports Medicine and Performance Center treats young athletes from every sport. We have developed several subspeciality programs for youth athletes with specific needs, including: Dance Medicine, Running Clinic, Throwing Medicine, Sports Medicine Nutrition and Sports Medicine Physical Therapy.
Along with injury care and treatment, we also provide additional resources to young athletes and their coaches, trainers and families to help optimize their skills and talents. We offer injury prevention classes and videos, nutritional counseling and performance-enhancement sessions.
