About Arun K. Srinivasan, MD, MRCS

Arun K. Srinivasan, MD, MRCS, is an attending pediatric urologist in the Division of Urology at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia. He is also a staff urologist at the Hospital of the University of Pennsylvania and an associate professor of urology in surgery at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.

Dr. Srinivasan’s approach to care is compassionate, individualized, and evidence-based. He believes a child’s well-being and happiness are the most important measures of his success as a pediatric urologist. He works closely with patients and families to identify the best treatment and care options available to them. It is important to him that families feel secure and confident in the decisions they make. He wants his patients to feel comfortable asking any questions, and he considers communication an essential piece of his work.

“Making a child better, getting a smile on their face, makes a long, hard day totally worth it,” he explains. “My specialty allows me this luxury every day.”

Dr. Srinivasan has extensive experience in minimally invasive urologic surgery, laparoscopy, and robotic-assisted procedures. He has a special interest in treating infants, children, and teens with pediatric stone disease, vesicoureteral reflux, urinary tract obstruction, and neurogenic bladder disorders.

Research is an important component of his work. He is excited about the future of minimally invasive treatment options and is currently pursuing research into robotic and laparoscopic surgery, as well as pediatric stone disease. He won prizes for best clinical research in 2008 and 2010 from the New York Chapter of the American College of Surgeons. His present research interests include new techniques in minimally invasive surgery, novel tools in the management of voiding dysfunction and neurogenic bladders, and the design and development of new diagnostic and therapeutic devices in urology.

Dr. Srinivasan believes that education is dynamic. In the medical field, learning occurs on a continuum. Being that the field of medicine is ever-changing, he is working to advance educational standards through initiatives in quality improvement. He looks forward to improving patient outcomes by spearheading projects that have the potential to alter physician education and patient care in the near future.

Since joining CHOP in 2012 as an attending physician in the Division of Urology, Dr. Srinivasan has had the opportunity to mentor 10 fellows and numerous residents, medical students, international visitors, and members of the urology research team — several of whom have gone on to pursue careers in the medical field. Beyond the borders of CHOP, he serves as a faculty member for the Pediatric Urology Laparoscopy Course as well as the North American Robotic Symposium. He is also the co-director of the Robotics in Pediatric Urology course hosted at the Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia for international trainees once a year. These national and international level courses offer educational training experiences for pediatric urology fellows. He values the opportunity to utilize his expertise to assist in the cultivation of the professional skills of the young physicians in the field of urology.

Dr. Srinivasan earned his Bachelor of Medicine, and Bachelor of Surgery degree (MBBS) from Stanley Medical College in Madras, India. He earned a Membership in the Royal College of Surgeons (MRCS) of England, United Kingdom, and completed a residency in cardiothoracic surgery at Aintree University Hospital in Liverpool, UK. In 2004, Dr. Srinivasan changed his surgical focus to pediatric urology and came to the United States to further his training. He completed general surgery and urology residencies at the North Shore-Long Island Jewish Health System in New York. Dr. Srinivasan continued his urologic training with a fellowship in pediatric urology at Emory University School of Medicine and Children’s Healthcare of Atlanta in Georgia.

Dr. Srinivasan is an active member of multiple professional organizations and societies including the American Urological Association, The Society of Fetal Urology, and the Endourological Society. In addition, he is a member of the Societies for Pediatric Urology, the European Society for Paediatric Urology, and the American College of Surgeons.

He has published extensively, serving as author or co-author on numerous urologic publications, including textbook chapters, articles, and editorials, and has presented more than 30 times at national and international conferences. He is also a reviewer for the Journal of Urology, the Journal of Endourology, and the British Journal of Urology.

  • My son was having a hard time (sensory issues and scared of doctor's offices) and she was winderful. He was resustant when she wanted to palpate his stomach but she made a joke about guessing what he ate for breakfast and be immediately jumped up on the table and was laughing. I cannot say enough good things about your staff. So accomodating and understandjng and just wonderful

  • Dr. Srinivasan and Liz were so wonderful with my son! He was very anxious about this appointment and they went out of their way to put him at ease and present possible treatments in a clear, positive manner. We left with a sense of hope and gratitude that we connected with them!

  • Experience was good. Liked Dr. It was just a follow up to make sure nothing was wrong after surgery.

  • The whole team was amazing. As a parent my concerns were heard, my son was approached in a manner that was incredibly effective for an uncomfortable medical condition especially for a teen boy. Dr S could not have been better in encouraging and getting buy in. The nurse practitioners were essential in obtaining his history and ensuring the recommendations were understood along with follow up. The front desk staff was outstanding as well. The medical assistant made my son feel comfortable and even remembered us at check out and wished us a good day. These things all lead to a superior patient experience.

  • I would recommend Dr. Arun to anyone, he saved my daughters quality of life and I am forever grateful. His skills as a surgeon far exceeded what I thought was possible (no scar, healing time minimal, no more UTIs). He has blessed hands. Thank you!

  • We are so thrilled with Dr. Srinivasan and the entire care team we've had throughout our CHOP journey. Our daughter has recovered beautifully from a successful reimplantation surgery and we couldn't be happier. If we can help promote the program or advocate/ support other families with children who have vesicoureteral reflux and reimplantation surgery on their trajectory, we would be more than happy! Thank you Dr. Srinivasan !!

About the Patient Experience Rating System

The Patient Experience Rating is an average of all responses to the care provider related questions shown above from our nationally-recognized Press Ganey Patient Satisfaction Survey. Patients that are treated in outpatient or hospital environments may receive different surveys, and the volume of responses will vary by question. Responses are measured on a scale of 1 to 5 with 5 being the best score. We are committed to true transparency. However, to ensure the comments are fair and correctly attributed, we review each one before posting to the website. We exclude entire comments that disclose patient’s protected health information, are off-topic, or include other confidential or inappropriate content. Comments will appear on provider bios only if providers have a minimum number of comments. Comments are shared internally for education purposes to ensure that we are doing our very best for the patients and families for whom we are privileged to care. The comments are submitted by patients and families and reflect their views and opinions. The comments are not endorsed by and do not reflect the views of Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia.
