Pediatric Neurocritical Care Program

The Pediatric Neurocritical Care Program at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is committed to the treatment and follow-up of infants, children and adolescents with acute neurological or neurosurgical conditions requiring intensive care. Our mission is to lead international medical and scientific communities in searching for the best ways to recognize pediatric brain injury, monitor children’s critically injured brains, and promote neurologic recovery. Our multidisciplinary team was created to support this mission through clinical care, research, education and quality improvement.
Our NeuroCritical Care Unit (NCCU), located within the Pediatric Intensive Care Unit, specializes in the care of children who:
- Are neurologically critical ill
- Have undergone complex neurosurgical procedures
- Require advanced neurologic monitoring because they are at high risk of neurologic injury

Why choose us for neurocritical care
Our multidisciplinary providers work together to provide early recognition of a child’s brain injury, bedside clinical evaluations and complex brain monitoring. We are committed to providing therapies that minimize ongoing brain injury and promote neurologic recovery for children. Our team leads and participates in national and international clinical trials to pioneer new technologies, monitor brain health, and better evaluate therapies to protect the injured brain.

Meet your team
The Pediatric Neurocritical Care Program is led by an interdepartmental team of experts in early recognition, treatment and follow-up care for children with neurocritical illness. Our team includes specialists in critical care, neurology, neurosurgery, anesthesiology, rehabilitation medicine and radiology who work together to care for children with critical neurological injuries.

Our locations
The Pediatric Neurocritical Care Program sees patients at the Philadelphia Campus and the Middleman Family Pavilion on CHOP's King of Prussia campus.
Pediatric Neurocritical Care Fellowship Program
The Pediatric Neurocritical Care Fellowship Program is a one-year clinical fellowship with the goal of developing specialty training in pediatric neurocritical care for board-certified/eligible pediatric intensivists and child neurologists.
