Why Choose CHOP for Legg-Calvé-Perthes Disease Treatment

The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) is a national leader in the clinical care of children with Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease. We use special Perthes-specific perfusion MRI techniques to determine the pattern of blood flow to the hip, which provides essential information for planning treatment.

Unlike many centers, CHOP offers a full array of treatment options including observation, long-term bracing, and pelvic and/or femoral surgery in order to match the appropriate treatment strategy with the right patient.

Any child with Perthes disease needs to be followed as they grow into an adult to be sure that the hip develops properly; continuity of care is very important. Treated at CHOP, your child will benefit from the long-term care available through our Young Adult Hip Preservation Program, which provides care for teenagers and young adults who may have lingering effects of their Legg-Calvé-Perthes disease.
