Hundreds of physicians and healthcare professionals joined Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) for its 8th Annual Personalized IBD and VEO-IBD Symposium: Genomics, Microbiome, Biologics and Beyond on Friday, April 4, 2025. 

During this one-day virtual course, participants learned from guest speakers and faculty from CHOP’s Division of Gastroenterology, Hepatology and Nutrition, Center for Pediatric Inflammatory Bowel Disease (IBD) and Very Early Onset Inflammatory Bowel Disease (VEO-IBD) Program.

Experts shared: 

  • A comprehensive overview of the genomic, immunologic and microbiome discoveries in VEO-IBD and pediatric IBD
  • The latest developments in research and clinical care for patients with pediatric IBD or VEO-IBD
  • An in-depth look at the latest cutting-edge diagnostic tools and therapeutics 

The half-day event began with a welcome from Robert N. Baldassano, MD, Co-Director of the Center for Pediatric IBD, and ended with closing remarks from Judith R. Kelsen, Director of the VEO-IBD Program. The event featured numerous sessions featuring lectures and dynamic case discussions.  

The VEO-IBD session included lectures from Dr. Kelsen and Scott W. Canna, MD, and case discussion from Brooke E. Boyer, MD, Maire A. Conrad, MD, MS, Trusha Patel, MD

A session on “Clinical Collaboration for the IBD-ologists” featured lectures from Amanda Ricciuto, MD, PhD, FRCPC, and Michael Silverman, MD

The translational/bench research session included talks from Kathryn E. Hamilton, PhD, and Ken Cadwell, PhD

The final session on precision therapeutics included a lecture from Andrew B. Grossman, MD, and dynamic case discussion with Lindsey G. Albenberg, DO, Elana B. Mitchel, MD, MSCE, and Drs. Boyer, Conrad, Kelsen and Patel.

Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia is jointly accredited by the Accreditation Council for Continuing Medical Education (ACCME), the Accreditation Council for Pharmacy Education (ACPE), and the American Nurses Credentialing Center (ANCC), to provide continuing education for the healthcare team. 

This live professional development activity was designated for a maximum of 3.5 AMA PRA Category 1 Credits™ for physicians; 3.5 ANCC contact hours for nurses; and 3.5 Interprofessional Continuing Education (IPCE) credit for other healthcare professionals.
