We are thrilled to welcome Sonika Agarwal, MBBS, MD, DNB, MNAMS, as an attending physician in the Division of Neurology at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia and Assistant Professor of Clinical Neurology at the Perelman School of Medicine at the University of Pennsylvania.
Dr. Agarwal comes with several years of clinical, academic, and research experience at India’s preeminent tertiary care center, the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, as a Fellow, Senior Research Scientist, and Assistant Professor of Obstetrics & Gynecology/Maternal Fetal Medicine. With her unique combined background of more than 10 years in maternal-fetal medicine and several years in pediatric neurology/fetal and neonatal neurology, she has focused her clinical practice and research on neonatal and fetal neurology and neurocritical care.
Most recently, she was an assistant professor at the Department of Pediatrics/Developmental Neuroscience at Baylor College of Medicine/Texas Children’s Hospital and the Sidney Kimmel Medical College at Thomas Jefferson University. She intends to focus her time on fetal and neonatal neurology and will be an active member of the Neonatal Neurocritical Care team.
Dr. Agarwal is keen to focus her research at CHOP in neonatal hypoxic-ischemic injury — neuroprotection, early diagnosis, and improving neurodevelopmental outcomes — and studying patient and physician perspectives regarding prognostication in the NICU.
