Hypospadias Research
Researchers and clinicians at Children's Hospital of Philadelphia have written extensively about the management of hypospadias, and we continue this work to better understand and treat this disorder. Our hypospadias research efforts are focused on providing optimal care for these patients worldwide. This includes ongoing research focused on improving surgical outcomes, identifying and addressing risk factors, better understanding the psychological impact that hypospadias has on our patients so we can enhance psychosocial and follow-up support, and much more.
In 2016, CHOP urologists spearheaded a quality improvement project in hypospadias looking at the utilization of the 2 stage repair in proximal hypospadias and pre-operative testosterone administration in patients with a small glans with prior to surgical repair.
Several of our surgeons in the Division of Urology lead committees focused on coordinating national research efforts to improve hypospadias outcomes. Team members also frequently present at clinical conferences nationally and internationally, as well as participate in mission trips, with the goal of expanding access to high quality hypospadias care to children around the world.
