Oncology Update

Children and their families have a beautiful new building for oncology outpatient and day hospital appointments at CHOP. In October, the Division of Oncology began seeing patients in the Buerger Center for Advanced Pediatric Care. The 12-level building includes 700,000 square feet for clinical care as well as patient, visitor and employee amenities. The $650 million building is across from the Main Building of The Children's Hospital of Philadelphia and faces the Colket Translational Research Building, where oncologists have their offices. The two buildings, along with a 2.6-acre landscaped garden plaza, comprise the new Raymond G. Perelman Campus at CHOP.

The building includes:

  • Clinical care areas arranged in “neighborhoods,” with related specialties grouped together. The goal is to keep appointments manageable for families who see different teams on one day. The third floor, for example, includes oncology, hematology, the day hospital, infusion pharmacy, and phlebotomy.
  • A 14,000-square-foot roof garden for families and employees.
  • Large waiting rooms with natural light, garden views, and play areas.
  • A five-level underground parking garage that accommodates 1,500 vehicles.
