Mindfulness Walk Recap

Mindfulness Walk Recap On Tuesday, July 16, the Mindfulness Program at Children’s Hospital of Philadelphia (CHOP) organized a mindfulness walk through the Buerger Garden for patients and families.

Mindfulness is the active state of being aware and keeping your attention in the present moment. When you are mindful, you observe your thoughts and feelings without judging them as good or bad.

About 75-100 staff and families came to take a few moments out of their busy day to enjoy the beauty and wonder of the garden and be in the present moment. Participants left their worries in a basket at the beginning of the walk and used a small map with guided quotes and suggestions to really see the garden and the surrounding beauty they might’ve not noticed before.

Members of the CHOP Mindfulness Collaborative handed out maps and mindfulness resources and heard a lot of positive feedback. Many asked for the walk to happen again in the future, and those unable to attend asked for more opportunities to enjoy the experience.

Be on the lookout for more mindful opportunities and resources thanks to CHOP’s Mindfulness Collaborative, Integrative Health, and Family Wellness Services.
